Dr. Stephanie Hutchman

I always say I didn’t choose School Psychology—it chose me! I initially planned to become a school counselor, but after just one phone call with the head of the school psychology program, I knew I had found my calling. Since then, I’ve loved helping students, families, and schools truly understand how to support growth effectively across all settings.

I have served as a school psychologist, district administrator / advocate, and parent in IEP meetings /  I am a Navy Veteran / I have four children spanning multiple generations / I survived a tornado / My superpower is uncovering the superpowers of others 

I have over 10 years experience as a School Psychologist.

 

  • I am an Independent School Psychologist with a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology and over a decade of experience supporting students across a wide range of educational settings—including preschools, elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as charter, private, and alternative programs with specialized services. My work has spanned culturally and socio-economically diverse communities, including schools with high populations of English Language Learners. I have also taken on full administrative responsibilities at various sites, strengthening my leadership and systems-level insight. In addition to my school-based work, I am a Board Certified Diplomate in School Neuropsychology and conduct independent school neuropsychoeducational evaluations, with a focus on comprehensive file review, clinical data integration, and the development of individualized, data-driven reports.

  • My experience spans from Preschool-age children through Transitional-age young adults. 

  • For more than five years I have run a private practice, in addition to providing contract services to local schools and via the leading telehealth platform, Presence Learning.

  • I believe in continued personal growth and professional development. I recently completed a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, a School Neuropsychology Post-Graduate Certification, and the PDA North America Level 1 and Level 2 Training Program. 
  • I have experience working collaboratively with schools and addressing some of the more challenging concerns involved regarding individualized education needs.

Auditory Processing Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: A Call to Understand and Distinguish

  • Conducted a study with the school psychologists within San Diego County to investigate the likelihood that a differential diagnosis would be considered when a child exhibits symptoms that are similar to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Auditory Processing Disorders (APD).

 

A Higher Education: An Examination of Youth Medical Marijuana Programs

 

  • The purpose of this qualitative systematic literature study is to highlight the research regarding the effects of cannabis on children and adolescents to determine the appropriate guidance and education needed to augment medical and mental health needs safely and responsibly with medical cannabis.
